  • Covid 19 update 21/02/2021

    21st February 2021

As a County we are asking our teams to continue to come up with innovative ways to support Scouting so that it can continue at distance. This includes sectional support, training, District support and more.

We would also encourage Groups to look at ways of providing Scouting digitally - online meetings, badges completed at home etc. We know there are some great ideas out there, so please share what you are doing! The Scout Association and OSM are also working on resources. In addition online Scout forums are alive with creative ideas.

This provides an interesting challenge, but Scouting has always been a movement, we adapt and inspire!

Finally, we know with this being a fast moving situation a lot has occurred in a short period of time and it will no doubt affect plans. If you have questions, concerns or just need a chat, please get in touch with the relevant people from the County Team, County Office or your local District Teams - and we'll do our best to help support (just bear in mind as volunteers we're potentially juggling our own Coronavirus situations).

We aim to provide further updates, suggestions and information. Watch this page and subscribe to iScout in Kent for regular updates and useful information.

    Governance

    District returns

The NCVO has published some useful guidance to help Executive Committees consider how they can best support Scouts locally during this time.

Any charity that needs an extension to their annual return deadline can contact the Charity Commission to ask for one. Please see their guidance here.

    POR

POR has been amended allowing meetings to be held remotely. It also allows decisions to be made electronically. This is valid immediately and will be updated in the next update to POR, in early April. The wording is as follows:

    • Electronic voting (such as email) is allowed for decision making of the County/District/Group Executive Committee and its sub-Committees when deemed appropriate by the Chair. In such instances at least 75% of committee members must approve the decision.
    • The County/District/Group Executive Committee & its sub-Committees can meet by telephone conference, video conference as well as face to face in order to discharge its responsibilities when agreed by the appropriate Chair.
